Gossip and Old Wives Tales- Shelf Life Books Calgary

The April Story Café at Shelf Life Books saw Mary Hays and Betty Hersberger spreading gossip and old wives tales.  Did you know that 'gossip' comes from 'god-sibling' defining a friend (male or female) who was as close as a sibling? That 'wife' was a synonym for 'woman', married or otherwise?  And don't get them started on the origins of 'spinster'!  Or perhaps you should.  Mary and Betty presented folklore, folksongs and folktales woven around these ancient definitions of women.
